Title: Basic Shaving Cream
Categories: Men *
Yield: 8 Ounces

1/4cStearic acid powder
1cHot water
1tsBorax
2tbGrated soap

The purpose of a good shaving cream is to help "set up" the beard, to facilitate razor glide, and to help the skin hold in the warm water that has been applied prior to smoothing on the shaving cream.

In a double boiler on the stove top, melt the stearic acid powder until it is a clear liquid.

Mix together the hot water, borax and soap, and stir until the borax and soap are completely dissolved. Pour the soap solution in a blender and turn on for about 1 minute, blending on low speed. Slowly pour the melted stearic acid liquid into the soap solution. Blend on high until a smooth cream has formed.

Pour into a clean, open container and allow to cool completely. When cool, stir the cream and put into a container with a tight-fitting lid or cover with plastic wrap.

To use, soften your beard with warm water and then smooth the shaving cream over your face. Use a sharp, clean razor.

Note: You may need to give this cream a good stirring from time to time if it's beef sitting on a shelf, but if you are using it every day this will probably not be necessary.
